Groveland Yosemite Gateway Museum

Docent

Become a Docent

STCHS and the Groveland Yosemite Gateway Museum are entirely run and staffed by volunteers. One of the most important opportunities for rewarding volunteering is to be docent at the Museum. The responsibilities are limited, and the chance to learn and enjoy are limitless.

Duties

A docent is the face of the Museum for visitors. They are the hospitable person at the entrance who enables the visitor to get the most out of their visit. Examples of docent duties include:

  • Greet and welcome visitors from all over the US and the world when they enter
  • Share information about the Museum, STCHS, and the local area, if asked
  • Help raise funds for the Museum by selling items from the Museum Gift Shop
  • Monitor the Museum space to assure good order.

Reasons to become a Docent

Being a docent is very satisfying and enjoyable. Among its benefits :

  • Chance to meet and talk with people from all over the globe
  • Learn more about local history
  • Remain active in the community with minimal stress or obligation
  • Show support for the community and the appreciation of its past

Docents determine their own schedule, but are requested to serve twice a month. Time spent at the Museum is roughly 4 hours per session.
