A strong driver of many people’s interest in history comes from the desire to know one’s personal and family history, as well as the place where that history occurred. Seeking one’s genealogy or community roots is a continuing source of pleasure for many in southern Tuolumne County. As a result, enabling that search has been a continuing component of STCHS’s role in the community.
HISTORY RESOURCE CENTER:
In keeping with community interest, an important part of STCHS is the History Resource Center (HRC). The HRC is focused on local history, both individual and community. It is dedicated to amassing, storing and sharing historical and genealogical information about people and places in the area "south of the Tuolumne River.“
The HRC has grown over the years as a result of the dedicated efforts of many volunteers. While volunteering with HRC is a rewarding activity on its own, it is also a wonderful entry point for a broader engagement with STCHS and local history.
